Gen Verde is a group of musicians and performing artists with a distinctly international profile. The current line-up consists of 22 women from 15 different countries. The band’s original style of music has been evolving with the arrival of each new member. Gen Verde’s current concert includes rock and pop rock songs, often with an original twist influenced by the group’s own rich cultural and ethnic mix.
While its members have changed over the years, the values at the heart of Gen Verde’s artistic goal remain the same: to contribute towards creating a global culture of peace, dialogue and unity. The group began with the gift of a green drum set to a group of girls in the International Center of Loppiano in December 1966. Those drums became the symbol of a revolutionary lifestyle where shared talents could become key instruments for building unity in diversity.
Gen Verde offers their audiences a challenge and a solution: Change the world? Change yourself! Start now. Start here.
In 50 years Gen Verde has performed in over 1,500 shows and events, in public squares, theaters and stadiums, with hundreds of tours in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and South and North America, with a production of 69 albums in nine languages. To this day, more than 147 singers, musicians, actresses, dancers and technicians have all been part of Gen Verde, contributing professionally to artistic productions of the most varied genre, from live concerts to musicals, as well as educational workshops and cultural events. The group continues to maintain its contacts with artists around the world, keeping the band’s outlook open to the entire global community. Recent endeavors also include special partnership projects for an intercultural exchange of creative ideas and talents.
Turn it up!
Recently, the international Gen Verde band launched its video clip, “TURN IT UP!” together with 465 boys and girls from 31 cities of 21 countries on five continents. On its 50th birth anniversary, the international Gen Verde band has recorded “TURN IT UP!” “It is an invitation,” they said, “to raise the volume of unity.” And this calls for a concrete, universal love that is able to take the initiative. This message has toured the globe with the group, re-echoing in squares, schools and homes throughout the world. It has contaminated many and become a life commitment.
The idea has returned ’in a million hues’, sung by numberless voices, and danced with the fantasy of different peoples. And these 465 boys and girls from 31 cities of 21 countries in five continents have become the protagonists of the video clip, ‘TURN IT UP!’ with their passion, enthusiasm and joy. This coming July 2018, Gen Verde will be coming to Tagaytay and Manila, Philippines for the International Youth Gathering of the Focolare called Genfest.
